Nordwest Lab is an independent studio building reliable software, automation pipelines, and data infrastructure for teams that care about craft. We take on a handful of clients at a time, embed deeply, and ship systems that keep working long after the engagement ends.
Three focus areas. Deep work, no fluff. Every engagement starts with a short discovery call so we can tell you honestly whether we're the right fit — and if we're not, we'll point you somewhere better.
Backend systems, APIs, and internal tools built for maintainability and long-term ownership.
Removing manual work from your operations — CI/CD, scheduling, integration, and reporting.
Pipelines, storage, and observability for data you can actually trust and act on.
A simple, predictable process. No surprise invoices, no mystery sprints, no "we'll figure it out later".
A 30–45 minute call to understand the problem, the constraints, and what success looks like. We'll tell you if we're a fit.
A short written proposal: scope, deliverables, timeline, and a fixed price or a clear estimate range. No vague retainers.
Weekly check-ins, a shared repo, and continuous deploys. You see progress as it happens, not at the end.
Documentation, walkthrough sessions, and a defined support window so your team can take the wheel with confidence.
A few examples of the kind of problems we take on. Client names are withheld under NDA — details available on a call.
Replaced a manual spreadsheet workflow for a mid-sized e-commerce operator with an event-driven pipeline. Cut month-end processing from three days to under an hour.
Consolidated five disconnected data sources into a single warehouse with modelled marts, automated tests, and a self-serve dashboard layer for the ops team.
Built a small internal app to replace a tangle of scripts and email threads. Now used daily by 40+ dispatchers across three countries.
We're a compact research and development studio based in Northern Europe. We work with a small number of clients at a time — enough to go deep, few enough to stay accountable.
Our background is in backend engineering, distributed systems, and data tooling. We like problems where correctness matters: financial calculations, data reconciliation, anything where "mostly right" is not good enough.
We don't do body-shopping, we don't scale headcount to fill seats, and we don't take on work we can't finish well. If a project isn't a good fit, we'll say so early.
We're pragmatic about technology. These are the tools we know well — but the right answer is always whatever fits your team and your constraints.
A few words from people we've worked with. Full references available on request.
"They shipped in six weeks what our previous vendor hadn't delivered in six months. Clear communication, no drama, and the handover documentation was genuinely useful."
"We hired Nordwest Lab to untangle a messy data pipeline. They left us with something we could actually maintain ourselves — which is exactly what we asked for."
"Rare to find engineers who push back when something is a bad idea. That saved us from at least two expensive mistakes."
Answers to the questions we get most often.
Most work is fixed-price after a short scoping phase. For ongoing engagements we offer a monthly retainer with a defined number of days. We don't bill by the hour for discovery calls.
Most engagements run between €8k and €40k. Small focused pieces (a two-week audit, a single integration) start lower; larger platform builds run higher. We're happy to work in phases.
Yes — roughly half of our work is embedded with an in-house team. We're comfortable joining existing standups, code review processes, and on-call rotations.
Every engagement includes a handover: documentation, a recorded walkthrough, and a 30-day support window for questions and small fixes. Longer support contracts are available.
We're based in Northern Europe and work fully remotely. We're happy to travel for kickoffs or key workshops when it makes sense — usually once or twice per engagement.
Yes, routinely. We can sign yours or provide our own standard mutual NDA before the first call if you prefer.
